Diversity feels good

That diversity strengthens our innovative prowess and makes the Group more competitive is now a firm conviction. In addition to gender and country of origin, diversity also applies to age, education, and professional experience.

The group of employees at the thermite plant run by Th. Goldschmidt AG (photo above) wasn't particularly diverse. And it didn't look much better anywhere else at the site of this Evonik predecessor: of the 1,071 employees in Essen, only 78 were women—just 7.3 percent of the workforce.

Today women account for around a quarter of Evonik employees, and over 40 percent are from countries other than Germany. Our roughly 60 colleagues at Health Care in Vancouver, Canada, are leading the way with their good example: team members there represent over 15 different nationalities and more than 20 different language
