NexGen ERP Program

Evonik is one of the first specialty chemicals companies to introduce the new SAP standard S/4HANA

Evonik has achieved a renewal boost to its global process and IT landscape. The specialty chemicals company has converted its most important IT system for the digital support of all key business processes to the new SAP standard S/4HANA. The technically demanding changeover went smoothly right from the start.

  • Renewal push in Evonik's global ERP system
  • New technological opportunities for further digitization of business processes
  • Consistent focus on market opportunities, customers, products, and innovations

Essen, Germany. Evonik is one of Germany’s first major specialty chemicals companies to introduce the new SAP standard for ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). This was preceded by more than two years of intensive preparation and global, cross-functional project work involving up to 450 employees.

As a result, around 15,100 users in 44 countries and 21 languages now have access to an updated, modern IT system for their work. It enables business processes to be controlled, planned, and monitored - in terms of budgets, raw materials, and production capacities, right through to customer orders, purchase orders, delivery, and logistics. With the switch to SAP S/4HANA, essential business processes have also been harmonized, automated, and integrated end-to-end in the process chain.

Evonik sees the extensive conversion as the start of its own "Digital Business Core," the digitized business core in which all applications and business processes in a company are networked. "Standardizing processes, making workflows simpler and faster, working closely together, and consistently focusing on market opportunities, customers, products, and innovations-that's what this is all about for us," says Ute Wolf, Evonik's Chief Financial Officer.

The successful changeover was preceded internally by a test phase with around 1,200 users to ensure a flawless start. "I am pleased that the changeover went so smoothly. Users have a new system at their disposal that works from day one. We have thus opened up additional technological possibilities to further drive our digital transformation," says Dr. Bettina Uhlich, Evonik's Chief Information Officer (CIO).
