Herne / Witten

Herne/Witten is one of the Resource Efficiency Segment’s global Evonik sites, ranging among the very large production sites for the manufacturing of raw materials for the paints and coatings industry.

Production in Herne focuses on isophorone chemicals, which are used to produce premium-quality crosslinkers, among other things. The raw materials distinguish themselves in a large number of applications such shiny paints, scratch-resistant and weatherproof automotive coatings, high-quality interior fittings for cars, and solvent-free coatings for industrial flooring. They also provide corrosion protection for bridges, scaffolding or sluices and ensure high stability for the rotor blades on wind turbines, to name but a few examples.

With its coatings and adhesive polyesters, Witten also holds a leading position in the Resource Efficiency Segment. As binders for the coatings industry, the saturated polyester resins marketed under the DYNAPOL® brand name provide maximum elasticity, ductility, and chemical resistance.

Evonik’s Herne/Witten facility is an important industrial location for the region. The investment in a (new) isophorone production line in 2007 not only safeguarded jobs but also created jobs in Herne both directly and indirectly, for example at suppliers.
