The name Fermas is a combination of the words fermentation and amino acids. The company started by producing L-lysine, moving on to test production of L-threonine in December 1995, and putting the first large-scale tryptophan unit into operation in 2007. Since 1998, Fermas s.r.o. has been a wholly owned subsidiary and now produces a total of five amino acids.

MORE AND BETTER IN RHEINFELDEN
Degussa AG’s Rheinfelden plant put a new production unit for aluminum oxide C, a highly dispersed metal oxide, into operation. The capacity of the new unit exceeded that of the one that was previously in operation by a multiple. The modified and improved technology considerably increased the company’s delivery capacity. Aluminum oxide C principally acts as an anti-static agent and as an anti-reflective agent for fluorescent tubes and is now marketed under the name AEROXIDE® Alu C.
