The powertrain of the future comes from Kamenz, a city near Dresden, Germany. Here, in the state of Saxony, Evonik manufactures chemical battery cell components for large-scale lithium-ion storage systems. Rechargeable batteries of this kind constitute the heart of electric vehicles and are regarded as the most promising solutions for supplying mobile energy.

Evonik Litarion GmbH manufactures LITARION® electrodes, which dramatically improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries, and Evonik has also developed the innovative SEPARION® ceramic separator, which reliably separates the anodes and cathodes from each other and makes large-scale lithium-ion cells especially efficient and safe. Evonik acts as a system manufacturer and supplies separators, anodes, and cathodes all from the one source.

Also belonging to the Evonik Group, and based in Kamenz, too, the company Li-Tec Battery GmbH mass-produces high-tech battery cells from the two key components SEPARION® and LITARION®. The company has been a joint venture of Evonik Industries (50.1%) and Daimler AG since December 2008.
